Ulstein Design has signed six ship design contracts with Brazilian
shipowners CBO and DSND Consub totalling over NOK 400 million.

The contracts are for the delivery of design, engineering, main equipment
and building follow-up, and cover three different types of vessels. DSND
Consub has ordered two oil spill recovery vessels (OSRV) of the ULSTEIN
P801 model with a conventional bow, while CBO ordered two larger and two
smaller platform supply vessels (ULSTEIN PX105 and ULSTEIN PX106 types,
respectively) with the ULSTEIN X-BOW®.

Important contracts
“These contracts are of great importance for the Ulstein Group. There is
major investment activity on the Brazilian continental shelf and
wide-reaching plans for the area. It is imperative to position ourselves in
this market,” says Ulstein Group area responsible Design & Solutions and
deputy CEO, Tore Ulstein. “DSND Consub is a new customer for us, and we are
happy that CBO has chosen Ulstein Design again for its fleet. The contracts
are extensive and involve many of our employees. To illustrate, the
contracts call for 35 engineering employees alone,” he says.

New sales office in Brazil
Ulstein Group is strengthening its international profile by establishing
several sales and representative offices world-wide. Ulstein Group has been
in Brazil since 2005 through the electro systems & service company Ulstein
Belga Marine, and recently opened a sales office there.
“There was stiff competition for these contracts, and to have employees on
site is a crucial support in the sales work. Mutual efforts from
shipowners, yards, main equipment suppliers and Ulstein Group employees
contributed to this result”, says Ulstein Design sales manager Lars Ståle
Skoge, and continues:
“Ulstein Elektro is delivering a huge amount of equipment to these ships,
including the integrated automation system ULSTEIN IAS® and communication
and information system ULSTEIN COM®, as well as options for a number of
other products.”

Long-term assignment
“All of the ships are on eight-year contracts, with options for extension,
for the Brazilian state oil company Petrobras. The DSND Consub ships are
being developed specifically for these assignments. The four CBO vessels
will be the first with the ULSTEIN X-BOW® to be constructed and permanently
stationed in Brazil, which is also exciting,” Skoge says.

Built in Brazil
Both shipowners will be utilising Brazilian shipyards, with CBO’s four
ships to be constructed at the Alianca yard, and DSND Consub’s two vessels
at the ETP yard.
